Lille are getting positive results, in-spite the unimpressive performances lately. Last week they put up a shy performance, created only 1 or 2 real scoring chances, but still managed to win all points away at Bastia (finished 1-0).
They are highly organized in midfield and very confident in defense, and this is why they afford to sit back and simply wait for opponents to open up.
Lille used a few reserves in the midweek Cup game away at Monaco. It was an impossible task to impose the rhythm at Monaco, so at least they preserved some energy (Monaco won 2-1). Keeper Enyeama, fullback Corchia, and forwards De Preville and Eder started only on the bench.
Hosts will miss defenders Basa and Soumaoro. Defenders Mendyl and Arcus, and midfielder Bahlouli will also sit out, but they would have been only reserves anyway.
Nice are also winning points, but just like Lille, they seem to lack determination and are too defensive minded. They settle with a minimum advantage and prefer to kill the game, instead of looking to increase their lead. It’s no coincidence that only one of their victories in 2017 finished with a 2 goals lead (all others were at a minimum advantage).
Midfielders aren’t so inventive nowadays, and a pass behind is always the first choice. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Nice, and since they are only 4 points behind leaders Monaco, maybe they focus first of all on not making any mistakes.
In comparison to last round Nice welcome back midfielder Walter.
This can easily be the most boring encounter of the round, with both sides trying to kill the game from an early stage. They are doing it often lately, so a 0-0 draw shouldn’t be surprising.
