Lille’s good run ended abruptly last round when they were simply destroyed by PSG (lost 6-1). A couple of minutes into the game and PSG were already leading 2-0. Lille lost all confidence after only 5 minutes and fully collapsed.
In these conditions the final result is of no surprise, especially since Lille also got a red card with about 20 minutes to go (conceded 2 goals while playing in 10).
Lille are far away from a place in Europe but they are certainly eager to wash away the shame in-front of own fans.
If coach Girard will succeed in making his players forget about last week then Lille shouldn’t have any problems in taking all points.
Hosts will have to do midfielder Mavuba and fullback Corchia, both of them suspended.
Lens are 12 points away from the safe zone with only 4 rounds to go (12 points to play for). The season is over for them and they have already packed their bags for Ligue2. Most probably some players are already in talks with their agents for finding some lucrative deals elsewhere. Football is the last thing they have on minds and this has been going on for a couple of rounds already.
Coach Kombouare even decided to change the system (took out a forward and added another defender) but it was all in vain. Last week for example players were like cones used for training in-front of Monaco (Monaco won 3-0).
This is the perfect opportunity for Lille to make amends for the shameful loss last week. An absent opponent won’t be able to create any problems. Lille -1 at 1.97
UPDATE: Lille will also miss versatile player Delaplace (injury)
