Striker Diabate surprised by his poor performance

Lille played against a really difficult opponent last round (away at Monaco) and on top of that they missed 3 defenders (Basa, Amadou and Beria). But in-spite everything Lille made a good game, they defended with lucidity throughout 90 minutes and even managed to create a few chances of their own.

After last round fullback Corchia will join the injured defenders on the sidelines making way for Soumaro in the lineup.

There is constant support for defenders as central midfielders Balmont and Mavuba don’t take part in the attacking phase and focus fully on helping defenders. In this way they are able to preserve energy and resist for the entire 90 minutes (energy is pretty valuable when you are 35 and 31…)

Lille failed to score so far in Ligue1 and even if they were up against top opponents (PSG and Monaco) they will struggle to find the net this season. Forwards Guillaume and Tallo will be alone upfront and neither of them has killer instincts. The rescue will come from the wings where Boufal and Bautheac will have to make twice the efforts to compensate for the lack of a valuable striker.

Bordeaux looked a bit better last round in comparison to the first game when they lost 2-1 on home ground. They are slowly improving and picking up rhythm. Although they won at a minimum advantage they fully dominated the Europa League game against Kairat (finished 1-0).

The strongest part is no doubt the midfield with players like Khazri, Chantome, Saivet, Poko, players who can easily compete on the international stage. But the main problem is striker Diabate who is out-of-form and all his attempts (even to pass or dribble) fail miserably.

Bordeaux may continue in goal with 20 years old Prior as Carrasso is still injured at the moment. More injuries for Bordeaux as Diabate and fullback Contento are also sidelined. In the end missing Diabate may prove to be a good thing as he was clearly out-of-form.

Once again we have a game in which both sides will struggle offensively. The only difference is the midfield where Bordeaux are more powerful. Surprisingly that advantage is not seen in the odds…

UPDATE: Lille will once again miss fullback Beria but welcome back defender Basa. Bordeaux will have to do without keeper Carrasso, defender Sane, fullback Contento, midfielder Sertic and forward Diabate, but at least they welcome back midfielder Plasil.
