Lille lost the Coupe de la Ligue final after a hard fought game against Champions PSG. It is almost impossible for a French team to keep up with PSG, but Lille made an impressive game and came pretty close of a positive result (lost 2-1).
Talking strictly about Ligue1, Lille is the most in-form side with 6 consecutive victories. Lille struggled in the first part of the season from an offensive point of view. They used to rely exclusively on midfielder Boufal, but now forward Eder settled in and achieved full potential, and winger Amalfitano is also very involved in the game and scored two goals last month.
Defensively they are very organized and solid, and don’t need to make extra efforts for keeping opponents outside the penalty box.
Hosts will have to do without defender Civelli (suspended) and winger Bautheac (injured).
In-spite the lack of motivation Angers continue to register positive results. Last round they won 3-1 away at Bordeaux, after playing in 10 for about an hour.
It has to be said that Angers were mostly dominated in the last three games, but somehow managed to keep it tight at the back and surprise on counters. Angers aren’t exactly masters of counter attacking tactics, in-fact most their goals this season came following set piece. The season is over for Angers, they can relax now, and maybe not being pressured by results made them more efficient and pragmatic.
Guests will have to do without defender Traore who is suspended.
Lille booked a place for Europa League next season, but they are dreaming of Champions League and still have chances to qualify. Angers are uncomfortable opponents, no doubt about that, but it will be really difficult to exploit on counters against Lille’s solid defense. LILLE -1.00 at 2.29
