Hosts made an awful game last round away at Sochaux. At the back they were easily surprised, like the defenders had other things on their minds. Upfront few solutions could be found, as Ayew brothers lacked inventivity and will, just like midfielder Valbuena.
In these conditions few balls found striker Gignac, who was not in the best of form himself. Even if the 2nd part of the season just began, it looks like Marseille will be entering one of those phases for which they are famous: few points despite having obvious quality in the squad.
The main issue appears to be motivation and determination. Players are probably thinking they don’t really have a chance at the title, while the 2nd place is reserved for Lyon. Maybe some fresh legs in the midfield will be a good idea, young players with hopes and willing to prove themselves. This will also make consecrated midfielders like the Ayews and Valbuena to make more efforts. But until coach Baup will realize that, Marseille will suffer. Defender Diawara recovered and it seems he’s ready for action.
Montpellier will enter this game after a mediocre display in the Cup away at Rennes. They never placed too much accent on that competition, while Rennes are somewhat of Cup specialists, so it was an expected and logical result.
Players didn’t give their all and couldn’t wait for the final whistle. But in the league, last round vs Lorient, Montpellier really impressed. They dominated the entire game, created lots of chances and in the same time kept it tight at the back. The only ones under the level of their teammates were forward Hererra (once again…) and winger Camara. Camara was the unpleasant surprise, he had many chances but he failed every single time. He was hesitant and without ideas for most the time he played. There’s a big possibility that Mounier will play instead of Camara from the 1st minute in this game. Regarding forward Herrera he will most probably be substituted by Charbonnier that made a good impression after coming in as a sub. There are no new injuries or suspensions in their camp.
Hosts will have big troubles trying to open Montpellier’s defense, a defense that is constantly improving, picking up confidence and stability. With the likes of Utaka and Cabella, guests have the power taking advantage of Marseille’s mistakes at the back. Double chance on Montpellier, low to medium stakes.
