Brest made an awful display last round away at Evian. They won the game after they were awarded an early penalty in the 10th minute and their opponents were reduced to 10. Even so, Brest was under constant pressure and forced to defend with many players. They managed to create very few chances and barely held the ball. We could see many unforced mistakes from their part, mistakes that could have been easily exploited if they were playing against 11 men… It really hurt the eyes of any football lover watching Brest getting away with a win… They will be using the same team as they did last round, as there are no new injuries or suspensions in their side.
St Etienne only managed a draw last round at home in front of Toulouse. What changed in their camp is the defense. They are more superficial in their interventions now, and also keeper Ruffier has mind trips now and then…
Otherwise the team looks good, with extraordinary offensive potential, Winger Hamouma got injured and will miss, but he looked out of form, and playing with Brandao from the beginning will definitely be a better option. They will be coming after a dramatic penalty shoot out in the Cup vs Lille, in the midweek. Some tiredness may have accumulated of course, but most of all there’s a grown morale. Even of their defense seemed a bit shallow last round, Brest’s offensive capabilities are very limited and they are not the kind of team to create pressure.
It will not be a an easy game, but in the end guests should prevail and take all the points. Their offensive qualities will be too much for a mediocre defense, while St Etienne’s defense won’t be in much danger.
