Rennes will have a difficult month as their best player, one man orchestra, offensive midfielder Pitroipa will be away at Africa Cup of Nations. He was doing everything and was running a marathon in every single game. With forward Erding being out of form and lacking confidence the entire team relied on Pitroipa for converting. The other offensive midfielders, like Feret or Alessandrini, were mainly dangerous through long shots and they needed many attempts for hitting the target.
Rennes will suffer in the offensive phase and many unders should be expected with Pitroipa out.
Regarding the defense, they started using both M’Vila and Makoun as defensive midfielders and that will heavily strengthen the defensive abilities. otherwise the team is the same as we know it. Forward Montano is still out injured, defender Mensah recovered but got injured again, and Diarra is at CAN (he could have been very helpful with Pitroipa out)
Guests will once again have to do without the services of winger Obraniak. Ever since he is out Bordeaux is visibly suffering. Especially since towards the end of the first part of the season, fullback Tremoulinas was in a mediocre form. Tremoulinas is a key player in Bordeaux’s play and many of their results depend on his form. Remains to be seen how will he start this year, but confidence isn’t something you gain by not playing games…. Defender Sane and forward Diabate are away at CAN. They aren’t key players, but Sane for example could have been used for a defense in 5, a strategy that Bordeaux tried a couple of times this season.
With both teams suffering upfront and concentrating on not making mistakes we shouldn’t expect many goals in this game. A team that relies on a fullback for creating (an even converting) vs a team that relies on midfielders for scroing through long shots can easily end in a goalless draw… Under 2.5 goals should be a solid bet. maybe even 0-0 correct score as a fun bet.
