The transfer window is still in the incipient phase and the most important transfers are yet to be made. Still, a couple of players already moved and their departures could influence how the respective teams will perform in the following season.
Marseille will say goodbye to some really important players, forward Gignac, midfielder Ayer and defenders Morel and Fanni. Gignac made a surprising choice and refused to sign another contract with Marseille and instead chose Mexican giants Tigres. Marseille do have talented replacements (Batshuayi for example) but Gignac’s experience is something they will definitely miss.
Key midfielder Ayew left for England (Swansea) and even if there are a couple of midfielders eager to prove they are worthy to be in the lineup, coach Bielsa will have problems in finding a proper substitute for Ayew.
Marseille have one of the poorest defenses in Ligue1 and so far they haven’t done anything to improve that aspect, on the contrary, they have lost defenders Morel and Fanni. They were not exactly rock solid but were always there when regulars were injured or suspended. Marseille definitely need to bring in some defenders otherwise huge problems are foreseen.
This season Lille often had problems in the attacking phase. Luckily for them the defense was always at high standards and there was never the need for many players in the defensive phase. Things may change from now on since Lille lost 2 important central defenders, Kjaer and Rozenhal. Rozenhal was mostly a substitute but he was a reliable player at the same value with regulars.
On a comic note we can say Lyon will be sad to see play-maker Gourcuff go. Gourcuff is an extremely talented player who had played only a couple of games and was injured for most of the time spent at Lyon. Still, he had one of the most lucrative contracts in Ligue1 and that is why Lyon’s president and even fans will be relieved to see him go.
