Lens finally won their first Ligue1 game in 2015 (1-0 against Toulouse). Lens weren’t so bad as results suggest in this second part of the season but inconsistency and most of all a fragile defense were the reasons for such a decline.
Now they need to make extra efforts in order to escape the relegation zone. They do have decent resources available, especially in the offensive department. and at times they simply dazzle opponents through short and fast passes and look like Europa League candidates.
Unfortunately these moment of creativity don’t last long and coach Kombouare is also to be blamed because he often rotates attacking players, preventing them from achieving full potential and building chemistry.
Hosts will miss important fullback Baal who is suspended.
Marseille made a nice surprise last round when they kept a clean sheet in-front of the best attack in Ligue1 (0-0 against Lyon). This is only the second time in 2015 when Marseille managed to keep a clean sheet…
They paid extra attention to the defensive phase because of the opponent and also keeper Mandanda was in excellent form.
Upfront young Batshuayi started only on the bench as coach Bielsa decided to rely on Gignac’s experience. It is a shame because Batshuayi is at the moment one of Marseille’s most in-form and confident players due to recent performances.
Marseille will miss central defender Morel due to suspension.
Motivation won’t be an issue for sure (Lens try to escape the relegation zone and Marseille fight for the top places) and with both sides doing better in the offensive phase there should be plenty of goal scoring opportunities. Hopefully Batshuayi will be a starter this time or play at least 1 half. Over 2.50 goals at 2.04
UPDATE: Lens will have to do without winger Nomenjanahary who is injured.
