[pullquote]Lille’s play has no flow, players move in frames, there’s no determination, no firing power, and on top of that even central defenders began to do blunders. Bastia to qualify at 2.25 seems better and better with each new look we have at Lille…[/pullquote] Bastia managed a great game last round, on home turf in front of Lorient. They were reduced to 10 early in the game but still won. On home ground they are one of the most determined teams out there. Napoleon’s spirit seems to be present every time they play…
But this game will be a bit different as there will be no Modeste upfront (suspended). However, the great news for them is that forward Ilan will make his come back. He couldn’t have picked a better moment. Ilan is the only one who can properly substitute Modeste, and even better than that, the entire team will be more concentrated on defending as Ilan is not a pure striker like Modeste was, so all the players will have lower positions in the field.
Defender Cioni is also available after injury, but they will still have to do without Rothen, Marchal and Marque (suspended).
Bastia showed clear improvements in the defensive phase last round. They had many players with defensive profiles missing and still managed to hold tight and in the end they won due to collective efforts and solidarity.
When Balmont doesn’t play the entire team is confused. They have no leader, nobody to show them the way around the field. With Kalou out they lost the little amount of speed they had. Now watching them build will be like watching slow motion re runs…
Most probably Pedretti and Rozenhal will be used as central midfielders, both of them clearly out of form, useless for creation and easily bypassable. This team of Lille looks nothing more than mediocre, and if at the end of the season they’ll be getting an European ticket (without any new arrivals) it will be a true miracle.
