Guingamp St Etienne Preview

guingamp st etienne preview

Another poor performance from Guingamp last week away at Lyon (lost 5-1), and now they have conceded a total of 15 goals in only 4 games.

It is no coincidence, no bad luck, and that number perfectly illustrates Guingamp’s defensive strength. Guingamp’s defenders have no confidence in themselves, most their clearances end up at opponents, their tackles are mostly fouls, and their positioning is always bad.

The good news is that Guingamp have powerful and talented attacking players, who can always add pressure and find the net. Erding and Briand are very experienced and skilled, and can create problems to many Ligue1 sides.

It’s been a while since St Etienne last won a Ligue1 game (five rounds ago), and the primary reason for this bad run is the defensive phase.

They are very vulnerable down the flanks. Fullback Tabanou advances frequently on the left side, and on the right side coach Galtier is constantly making experiments. Last week for example 17 years old Pierre-Gabriel started as a right fullback, and was extremely shy and prone to making errors. St Etienne managed to keep a clean sheet (0-0 against Angers), but only because opponents had reduced firepower and focused on defending.

Guests will have to do without central midfielder Lemoine, who plays an extremely important role for the defensive phase.

The price on goals is incredibly valuable, considering how these teams have been performing lately. This game has huge potential for going over, so jump on it. OVER 2.25 goals at 2.07

UPDATE: Guingamp will miss winger Benezet and defensive midfielder Mathis. St Etienne will have to do without winger Hamouma.
