Guingamp’s adventure in Europa League is doing more harm rather than good. Playing in such a competition is of course a once in a lifetime opportunity for a club like Guingamp, but the squad has no depth and they are forced to use the same players in both tournaments.
In Ligue1 Guingamp have to make extra efforts each game in order to win points. They aren’t exactly bursting with talent so they have to compensate somehow. Last round when Guingamp won 2-1 away at Lille they were under heavy domination for most of the game and only succeeded in taking all three points because all players ran their lungs out.
In the midweek Europa League game (0-0 away at Dinamo Minsk) coach Gourvennec used the best team possible and tiredness surely accumulated. Only forward Schwartz and defender Kerbrat were rested (because minor injuries).
Winger Pied missed the midweek game and most likely will sit out again.
Although Nice was by far the better side they ended up losing on home ground last round against Bastia (finished 1-0).
Central defender Genevois was only on the bench as he just returned after injury. But the couple Diawara – Bodmer looked pretty solid in-spite Nice conceding one goal.
The major weakness is upfront where striker Cvitanich is still injured and Nice most the times have problems in penetrating inside the penalty box. They concentrate mostly on long balls delivered from flanks and long range attempts from outside the box. This is not exactly an ideal strategy but Nice are full of energy in every single game and continuous attempts create tremendous pressure.
Two weeks ago after playing in Europa League (won 2-0 over PAOK) Guingamp were more apathetic than usual in Ligue1 (lost 1-0 vs Nantes). Things shouldn’t be any different now, especially against Nice who are always very energetic. Nice +0.25 at 2.04
