Guingamp Montpellier Preview

guingamp montpellier preview

It was surprising to see Guingamp keep a clean sheet in the last 2 rounds, especially after they had conceded no less than 15 goals in the previous 4 rounds.

Central defender Sorbon missed a few games and the defensive strength diminished considerably, but everything returned to normal when he recovered from injury.

Although Guingamp are sitting on two consecutive wins, they looked a bit exhausted before the international break with key players Briand and Sankhare making extraordinary efforts to keep up with opponents. Hopefully the energy levels are now restored after a week off.

In normal conditions Guingamp are pretty solid, especially on home ground, very organized at the back and pragmatic in the attacking phase. The only problem is Guingamp have limited resources and aren’t able to keep the same rythm for 90 minutes.

Hosts may welcome back forward Privat after injury.

Exactly when it seemed that Montpellier finally found some form, they lost two consecutive games and are now back where they started.

Montpellier’s major problem is the heavy reliance on playmaker Boudebouz. He is in great condition, but Montpellier are very predictable and struggle to pose real threats. Recently important midfielder Sanson returned after a long injury, but until now he failed to pick up rythm.

Montpellier have a decent defensive phase, but since they aren’t able to keep possession in opponents’ half there is always pressure on defenders.

Guests will have to do without young striker Ninga who is suspended.

Montpellier will be happy to let Guingamp take charge of the game and focus mostly on counters. Hosts never adventure upfront like savages and instead prefer to build up play gradually and apply moderate pressure. In these conditions Guingamp have more chances of taking all points than the odds suggest. GUINGAMP -0.25 at 2.25

UPDATE: Hosts will miss midfielders Benezet and Mathis. Montpellier will miss important defender Congre due to suspension.
