Last round coach Gourvennec realized Guingamp have no chance away at PSG and decided to rest some of the most important players in the squad. Forwards Briand and Privat started only on the bench, same as winger Benezet.
In-spite of all the changes Guingamp managed to create a couple of important chances but weren’t pragmatic enough to find the net.
Things should go back to normal this round and Briand, Privat and Benezet should be in the lineup. Briand is one of the best Ligue1 players in September and his presence in the lineup will definitely be a major boost.
In defense Guingamp are only mediocre and even before the game against PSG they used to concede about 1 goal per round.
For the second consecutive round Monaco were involved in a 5 goals thriller (won 3-2 at Montpellier). Monaco mildly dominated for the entire game but in the second half players got more determined and managed to get back in the game and even scored the winner in extra time.
For a team with European ambitions Monaco concede way too many goals. This happens mostly because of the poor chemistry levels as midfielders don’t synchronize when trying to help defenders. Luckily for Monaco they are simply bursting with individual talent in the attacking phase and are always able to outscore opponents.
Monaco will welcome back forward Traore after suspension.
Monaco’s defense will once again have problems against one of the most in-form forwards in the tournament (Briand). But we had proof last round that Monaco are able to make a comeback no matter the result. Over 2 goals at 1.91
UPDATE: Monaco will miss fullback Coentrao due to injury while forward Carillo was left outside the squad by choice.
