Guingamp looked better this weekend against Lens than in the first round. Still, in-spite winning 1-0, they have a couple of weaknesses that could be easily exploited by solid opponents.
First of all they can’t keep up a fast paced rythm for the entire 90 minutes and are very happy to give up initiative. Constant pressure is out of the question when we talk about Guingamp.
Secondly, forwards seem a bit too lazy (for example newly arrived Schwartz is always caught in blatant off-sides) and so all midfielders have to participate in the offensive phase in order to compensate.
Guingamp were kind of fortunate to win last round as all counters proved to be dangerous and only Lens’ timidity made this result possible.
There are no news yet regarding the condition of injured midfielder Sankhare.
Besides Montpellier’s players and fans, bookies are also exulting because of Marseille’s last result (lost 2-0 to Montpellier). Really poor performance from Marseille, not necessarily because everyone has high expectations from them, but simply because the defense was hesitant, the midfield full of holes and the attack uninspired.
Marseille have problems adapting to the new system imposed by coach Bielsa. The biggest issue is in midfield where DjaDjedje and Mendy are too close to the wings and Imbula is virtually alone in central midfield, especially with Ayew having more offensive tasks. Although he is a decent player, Imbula is only 21 and lacks the necessary experience to be able to deal on his own with incoming attacks. In these conditions Marseille’s defense in 3 can easily be caught on the wrong foot.
Both sides have clear problems and until they will take some measures a bet on this encounter is simply not worth.
UPDATE: Guingamp welcome back Diallo who was suspended last round. Marseille will be without defensive minded Mario Lemina.
