Guingamp Marseille Preview

guingamp marseille preview

Guingamp were under heavy domination last week away at Monaco, but still managed to get a positive result and start the season on the right foot (finished 2-2).

It seems that Guingamp have a new playing style this season, as they rely mostly on long balls inside the penalty box. Forward Privat is a solid player, perfectly adapted for this kind of strategy.

He already scored his first goal this season and most probably will be Guingamp’s biggest threat, even more dangerous than experienced Briand.

They don’t have any leader in central midfield after Sankhare’s departure, and that can be a real problem both for the defensive and offensive phase.

Boring game between Marseille and Toulouse last round, with only a few real scoring opportunities.

Newly transferred Gomis was Marseille’s most dangerous player, but he didn’t receive any support inside the penalty box, and Marseille couldn’t find the net.

Marseille relies on building actions down the flanks, and they were really unlucky to lose fullback Bedimo and winger Thauvin because of injuries. Both of them got injured in the first half last week and are doubtful for this game.

If Thauvin’s replacement made a decent game, fullback Rekik (the one who substituted Bedimo) isn’t accustomed with an offensive playing style, and easily lost possession when in opponents’ half.

Newly arrived defender Hubocan made an excellent game, and seems to be the prefect solution for Marseille. Guingamp’s forward Privat will have a hard time playing against Hubocan.

It’s too early to tell if Marseille are on the right track or not. They do have plenty of talent, but they need to find the perfect strategy and some rythm.

UPDATE: Hosts will have to do without midfielder Didot, forward Benezet, and defenders Pereira, Leveque and Lemaitre. Marseille will miss fullback Bedimo and midfielder Alessandrini.

Guingamp: Johnsson, Salin, Ikoko, Angoua, Sorbon, Kerbrat, Marçal, Mané, Blas, Diallo, Deaux, Giresse, Coco, De Pauw, Salibur, Privat, Mendy, Briand

Marseille: Marseille : Pelé, Samba – Sakai, Doria, Rekik, Rolando, Hubocan – Diaby, Cabella, L.Diarra, Khaoui, Machach, M.Lopez, Zambo Anguissa – B.Sarr, Gomis, Leya Iseka, Thauvin
