Guingamp – Lille Preview

Either the good results got to their head or it’s just tiredness accumulated but now Guingamp are running on low fuel.

Last round they did absolutely nothing to bounce back after Lyon’s 2 fast goals. It is true that Lyon were very disciplined at the back, but it should have been Guingamp’s duty to try and open them up instead waiting for the final whistle and weekly paycheck.

Hosts have hard times against organized teams, and at this moment, in Ligue1, Lille is by far the most organized side.

Midfielder’s Martin injury played a big role in Lille great run… Replacement Rodelin is in the form of his life and just won Lille’s player of the month award.
He drastically boosted the level of creativity for Lille.

This is one of those few times in a season when both the attack and the defense are doing great. It’s been 7 rounds since Lille last conceded in the league. It is simply amazing how players are always on alert and cover for one another.

There is however some bad news for Lille ahead of this game. Central midfielder Gueye will miss through suspensions and other central midfielder Balmont is doubtful. At least fullback Beria should return after sitting out last round.

Gueye is not that visible when playing but he is very active, a utility player if you like. Happily for Lille they have Meite who’s got almost the same profile.

If Balmont will eventually miss there are a couple of alternatives to replace him: there is Delaplace (slow player) but also coach Girard could convert fullback Sidibe to that position. Even if a fullback, Sidibe could be perfect as he’s got a clear tendency of always pushing in the center. He will be much more useful to both the defensive and offensive phase.

It won’t be a walk in the park for Lille, especially with Balmont and Gueye out, but that won’t diminish their levels of discipline and organization. Just like last round, Guingamp will consider Lille to be out of their league and will be happy to wait for the final whistle.

Lille opened up at somewhere around 2.00. The price is higher now because people are afraid of Lille’s absences. Well they shouldn’t be. Lille to win at 2.22 is worth some low to medium stakes.
