In-spite playing against a 4th division side Guingamp had a difficult game in the Cup, in midweek away at Concarneau.
With the exception of keeper Lossl, midfielder Marveaux and winger Beauvue who were only on the bench, Guingamp used all regular players but could only find the winner in extra time (won 2-1)
Guingamp started 2015 in an excellent manner but in February they slowly reduced rythm and and also lost a bit of confidence after being eliminated from Europa League.
We shouldn’t exaggerate as this is not exactly a difficult moment for the home side, but it’s the right moment for them to put the pedal to the metal as otherwise they will get lost in mediocre performances.
It was surprising to see Lille getting all the points last round in-front of Lyon (Lille won 2-1). Play-maker Lopes made a great game, scored once and delivered an assist. Lately Lopes has been constantly picking up form and it seems he achieved full potential.
Unfortunately for Lille coach Girard has a way forcing players to lose form by leaving them on the bench exactly when they need continuity. Lopes needs to play for the entire 90 minutes in every game in order to maintain a high level of confidence but coach Girard is inpatient and most likely will think otherwise.
Last round Lille showed impressive determination and Guingamp will really need to pick up the pace in order to keep at home at least 1 point. If both sides will play at maximum potential they can easily neutralize each-other and split the points in the end.
UPDATE: Guingamp will have to do without defender Leveque who is out injured. Lille will miss Mavuba and Delaplace who are injured but will welcome back defender Rozenhal.
