Although they held less possession, Guingamp truly deserved to win last round away at Rennes (won 2-0). At the back they were very organized, confident in interventions and didn’t give away any spaces.
Upfront Guingamp were pragmatic and always focused on the easiest of solutions. Simple playing style but very effective.
It is not only about last week, but also 2 rounds ago against Nice (won 1-0), when they had the same poised attitude and playing style.
Offensive players (wingers and forwards) seem to be in good form, inspired and very lively.
This is a good moment for Guingamp, with boosted morale and players able to achieve maximum potential.
There are no reports on new injuries, so most likely coach Gourvennec will use the same team as last round assuring continuity.
Although the scoreline doesn’t show it, Evian’s game against Nantes last round was not that easy (Evian won 2-0). They haven’t conceded because Nantes lacked offensive power and not because defenders created a solid wall.
Veteran Barbosa (38 years old) was the most important player for the offensive phase. The rest of attacking players proved to be uninspired and too slow to create any danger. Newly arrived striker De Melo continues to disappoint and can’t play more than 1 half in these conditions. Winger Sougou seems to be afraid to make contact with the ball, and forward Berigaud is not really happy with his new assignment on the wing (he used to play in the center).
In comparison to last round Evian will miss central defender Angoula who is suspended and defensive midfielder Kone who suffered an injury. Coach Dupraz will have to replace Kone with Cambon, or opt for a more offensive formation. Either way, the defensive potential will be reduced.
Guingamp are confident now and superior to Evian when it comes to organization and playing style. Hosts to win at 1.92.
UPDATE: Evian will have to do without offensive players De Melo and Sougou.
