It was about time for Gazelec Ajaccio to get their first Ligue1 victory (won 3-1 vs Nice). It is no coincidence they got this result on home ground, as they are much more determined in front of own fans. Gazelec Ajaccio resisted heroically against the most prolific attack in Ligue1 and admirably closed down all possible spaces.
Veteran striker Pujol scored in the last two home games and now fans go wild each time he touches the ball. Midfielder Djokovic also made a great game last round, scored a goal and delivered an assist, and will surely be a starter in future rounds.
Ajaccio’s Cup game got suspended after about 50 minutes due to a waterlogged pitch. It was already 2-2 in minute 50 when they game was abandoned. Ajaccio were actually the ones imposing the rythm even if 3 important players were only on the bench (Pujol, Larbi and Ducourtioux)
Not exactly sure what is making Bordeaux constantly lose confidence and under-perform but it’s a shame to see so much potential go to waste.
Attacking midfielder Khazri started this season in force, even scored in the first rounds, and it seemed this was going to be a promising season. But unfortunately Khazri gradually faded and now he can’t even finish a game on the field anymore.
Important striker Diabate returned from injury recently but hasn’t played much and there is no improvement in the offensive phase.
On the right flank there is Saivet who has been injured for most of last season and never really found any form after recovering.
With Khazri and Saivet in poor form Bordeaux struggle to create dangerous opportunities, and without Diabate upfront they also have hard times in converting the few chances they create.
Fullback Guilbert suffered an injury last week but it seems there is nothing serious.
This is a good moment for hosts who once again should be very determined on home ground and able to resist against a team lacking creativity. Gazelec Ajaccio +0.5 at 2.08
UPDATE: Bordeaux’s forward Diabate and defenders Conte and Yambere are with the second team today.
