Really difficult end of the season for Gazelec Ajaccio who made another wrong step last round against Lille (lost 4-2).
Hosts are just 1 point above the relegation zone, and they have a tough schedule with games against Lyon and PSG coming up. Bastia is considered the most accessible opponent for the rest of the season, so Gazelec Ajaccio may push harder than usual.
Unfortunately they will have to do without key central defender Filippi who is suspended, while the other central defender Brechet is doubtful after suffering an injury last week.
Ligue1 officials changed rules recently, and the 18th place in Ligue1 will play a relegation playoff against 3rd place from Ligue2. That is another reason for Gazelec Ajaccio to be more aggressive than in previous rounds.
It was a balanced game between Bastia and St Etienne last round, but the lack of attacking power once again betrayed the Corsicans (St Etienne won 1-0).
Bastia failed to score in the last two rounds, and since they lack motivation, most probably there won’t be any improvement in the attacking phase for the rest of this season.
They are very organized and solid in the defensive phase, but always disappoint when trying to push the game forward. They also have problems when it comes to speculating on counters, and in these conditions it’s no surprise they have the third worst attacking record in the tournament.
Guests will welcome back captain Cahuzac after suspension
This would have been a great opportunity for Bastia to take advantage of Ajaccio’s need for points and their defensive absences. Unfortunately they are toothless upfront and can be trusted to exploit on counters.
UPDATE: Hosts will miss defenders Brechet and Filippi, but welcome back midfielder Ducourtioux and defender Coeff
