After cruising 3-0 past Honduras, France made another excellent game and simply destroyed Switzerland 5-2.
France’s ability to reach the opponents’ goal from only a few short passes is outstanding. Against Switzerland they’ve scored 5 times but the number could have been bigger, as once the advantage took proportions they started to play around with chances and even missed a penalty.
France conceded 2 goals but this is simply irrelevant as they were already 5-0 up and any additional efforts, both defensive and offensive, simply couldn’t be justified.
Coach Deschamps will most likely make a couple of changes, both because France are already qualified but also because he is forced by circumstances.
Central midfielder Cabaye is suspended and most probably Mavuba will take his place. Central defender Sakho got out injured against Switzerland so Koscielny should start instead. Fullback Evra and midfielder Pogba risk suspension in case of yellow cards, so there’s a big chance that Digne will play instead of Evra and Sissoko will substitute Pogba.
Rest assured all the mentioned players are skilled, fired up and eager to prove themselves.
Although they won (2-1 against Honduras) Ecuador looked very insecure in defense and made a couple of unforced mistakes, one of which led to Honduras scoring an easy goal.
Ecuador’s central midfielders, the ones who should take part in the defensive phase, were slow and easily outplayed.
Honduras’ reduced defensive skills (mainly poor marking) played a big role in both of Ecuador’s goals, so there was nothing impressive in regards to their offensive phase.
The price on France to win is incredibly big. It doesn’t matter they are already qualified and Ecuador need points for finishing 2nd in the group, as France are still fired up, very determined and more confident than ever. France -0.5 at 1.89.
