Evian had some defensive problems against Lille (lost 1-0) as they missed a couple of defenders who are away on international duty (Mongongu, Menshah and Kone) and central defender Angoula who suffered an injury just before the game started so coach Dupraz was forced to convert Sorlin to the central defender position.
Sorlin was often caught on the wrong foot and had difficulties in keeping up with his direct opponent. In central midfield Evian started with 2 offensive minded players, Tejeda who has yet to adapt at the club, and young Thomasson who actually feels more comfortable on the wing. As a consequence Evian weren’t able to push the game forward and easily gave up possession.
There are good chances that Evian will use the same lineup as last round, with the exception of fullback Ninkovic who suffered an injury.
Opponents Rennes managed to qualify to the next stage of the French Cup after defeating 3rd division side Dunkerque 2-1. According to reports Rennes controlled the game but did not push that hard and were satisfied with a minimum advantage. Rennes often withdraw in defense after taking the lead, wait for opponents to open up and try to speculate on counters.
Guests will welcome back fullback Danze and winger Ntep after suspension. Ntep plays an important role and his presence will surely change the way Rennes look. Winger Fernandes may also return after injury. On the other hand central defender Mexer suffered a knock in the Cup game and is doubtful.
Evian aren’t capable of holding possession and will continue to rely only on long balls for top-scorer Wass. Since they play on home ground Evian could be more daring and even more open spaces could appear for Rennes to exploit. Rennes DNB at 1.99
