Evian – Nice Preview

The game between Evian and Montpellier last round was very balanced and the final result may be a bit unjust (Montpellier won 2-0).

Evian did had their share of the chances but offensive players lacked efficiency and pragmatism. For some reason coach Dupraz insists on using Tejeda as play-maker but the Costa Rican lacks vision and slows down play. This is why Tejeda’s injury last round may be seen as good news by some fans.

Fullbacks Juelsgard and Sabaly were very active and often engaged in actions with offensive players Barbosa and Wass. In-fact this is how most of Evian’s actions were carried out.

Central defender Cambon seems to be a liability but Mensah will be back after suspension and will replace Cambon in the lineup increasing the defensive power.

Nice were outplayed last round on home ground by one of the most in-form clubs in Ligue1. (Nice – Lyon 1-3). Nice made a decent first half but quickly got overwhelmed in the second part even if they were the ones who opened the score.

Important central defender Bodmer suffered an injury and his substitution heavily diminished the defensive potential (Bodmer will also miss this round).

Midfielders Bautheac and Carlos Eduardo tried to push the game near Lyon’s penalty box but lacked vitality and inspiration.

A pleasant surprise was fullback/winger Puel (coach’s son) who scored a goal and also had a few other impressive attempts, most of them from volleys.

Striker Cvitanich returned from injury but was only on the bench. There is a high possibility we will see him in the lineup this round.

Defender Bodmer is very important for Nice and his absence could be a clear advantage for Evian regardless the lack of a striker with killer instinct. But Evian will once again need to rely on fullbacks and midfielders for converting chances and spaces may open up for Nice who simply love to attack down the wings and serve long balls inside the box.

UPDATE: Nice’s winger Puel suffered an injury and joined defender Bodmer and midfielder Digard in the physio room.
