Evian made a poor game from all points of view last round away at Nantes (lost 2-1).
Upfront players got lost in their own dribbling moves and when they remembered to pass the ball they mostly missed the target. Still, nobody can deny striker’s Duhamel skills and thanks to him Evian can find the net against many Ligue1 sides.
In defense Evian were easily surprised and almost the entire back line (3 defenders) plus the defensive midfielder got yellows because fouling opponents was the only solution.
Things may get even more difficult this round as hosts will have to do without suspended defender Cambon.
It seems that Evian aren’t able to keep up a fast paced rythm and the good results from about a month ago were just a passing stage.
Only thanks to the great form of forward Barrios and keeper Joudren Montpellier managed to win last round (3-1 against Reims). Montpellier scored 3 times without holding prolonged possession and by taking advantage of opponents’ hesitant defense.
But in midfield Montpellier easily gave up possession and defenders often found themselves under pressure. Keeper Jourdren was a real hero and saved many balls that seem destined to enter the net.
Things are pretty tight in the lower half of the table and Evian need all the points they can get. Especially at home they will be pushing hard until the end of the season regardless the opponent. But with a fragile defense we have a certitude that opponents with decent skills can find the net. An aggressive Evian against a pragmatic Montpellier promises to be an exciting encounter.
