Unfortunately for Evian all good things come to an end. It wasn’t long before opponents understood what makes Evian tick and took measures.
Their play on the wings was easily and simply annihilated by Lille and Evian had no plan B. Now they really need another plan, especially since fullback Dja Djedje (maybe their best player) got injured and will miss.
In these circumstances they simply can not make their usual game anymore. Winger Wass will have no proper partner to exchange roles with and the entire tactic will be thrown upside down.
The right flank with Dja Djedje and Wass was Evian’s strength so far, but now it will turn into their weakness.
Striker Berigaud also depended on the actions started on that side, and losing Dja Djedje will also diminish Berigaud’s power to pose threat.
After the 3-3 goal feast at Lorient, coach Gillot decided he should improve the defense. He successfully achieved that by placing Sane in front of the central defense, and easily switching to 3 central defenders whenever it was the case.
The other central midfielder Sertic was very advanced and involved both at creation and finishing.
Bordeaux had many chances last round and only bad luck and Reims’ compact defense prevented them from scoring.
But players seem to be in good form, their actions had a good flow and the appetite was at high levels.
Fortunately for Bordeaux, Evian’s defense is far from compact with the fullbacks often advancing and central defenders having questionable abilities.
With Evian unable to apply their usual tactics and Bordeaux having found the problem to a leaky defense, the odds of 1.72 for Bordeaux +0.25 is one of the safest bets around.
