It’s official now, top-scorer Duhamel lost his place in the lineup as coach Garande started to prefer Privat.
Contrary to what many may think the offensive potential is not diminished as Privat scores round after round. But it’s not all about the striker at Caen, in-fact the most important players are midfielders, the ones creating the actions. Central midfielder Feret is in extraordinary form after scoring once and delivering 3 assists last round away at Rennes (Caen won 4-1).
Wingers Nangis and Koita are also bursting with confidence and often outplay opponents in 1 vs 1 duels. The offensive strength should increase since Caen loaned-in young Argentinian Sala from Bordeaux.
This is the 2nd consecutive round in which Caen scored 4 goals and in this rythm it won’t be long until they escape the relegation zone.
It was a bit surprising seeing St Etienne starting with 2 strikers against PSG last round. Maybe coach Galtier finally realized the offensive deficiencies and tried to redress the situation.
Unfortunately the change in system was of no use in-front of an organized and valuable club like PSG. But trying to put more emphasis on the offensive aspect may make a difference against Caen who are far from having a stable defense.
Winger Monnet-Pacquet is still injured but St Etienne have enough attacking potential in midfield thanks to Hamouma and Mollo.
There is no certainty coach Galtier will again use 2 strikers, but if he does this should be quite an enjoyable encounter with many goal-scoring opportunities. The odds for goals are really good and it is worth waiting for the lineups for a last minute bet.
UPDATE: Caen will miss striker Duhamel and winger Raspentino but they have been only bench warmers lately.
