Caen Reims Preview

caen reims preview

Last week Caen focused mostly on preventing opponents from building up play. This strategy worked, but unfortunately they couldn’t be as dangerous as usual on counters, mostly because coach Garande decided to keep top-scorer Delort only on the bench (Lille won 1-0).

When Delort entered the field in second half he substituted forward Rodelin, who is also an important element for the attacking phase. Most probably coach Garande tried to preserve energy for the game against Reims, who is a much more accessible opponent.

Hosts will have to do without midfielder Nkololo who is suspended. On the other hand defender Da Silva resumed collective training and should return to the lineup.

Reims were very lucky to take all points last round against Angers (won 2-1). Reims scored both goals against the run of play, and the referee also disallowed opponents a perfectly valid goal in the final minutes.

Reims certainly needed the three points and it was a breath of fresh air for them. They are only 6 points above the relegation zone, but can relax a bit after last week’s success.

Defenders once again made a couple of errors, but luckily for Reims keeper Placide was in excellent form and had numerous impressive saves.

Luck is a part of football, but it always comes in limited quantities, so Reims shouldn’t get their hopes up… Caen is a solid side, with a lucid and confident defense, and able to carry lightning actions that can destabilize most opponents. CAEN -0.5 at 2.05
