A red card destroyed the balance between Caen and Guingamp last round and led to a huge goal difference (Guingamp won 5-1).
Until the red card Caen were pretty dangerous, with midfielder Feret and fullback Imorou advancing often and creating decent opportunities. Coach Garande tried to preserve some energy and avoid accumulation of tiredness and left striker Duhamel, winger Koita and midfielder Kante only on the bench.
All of them entered in second half, but the problem was that all mentioned players have mainly offensive tasks and the red card was shown to a central defender…
After the red card Caen didn’t change formation and the consequences were devastating (ended up losing 5-1).
Hosts will welcome back central defender Da Silva after suspension and he will replace Pierre (suspended).
It can be said that Nice dominated last round against Rennes but it was of no use since they couldn’t find a way to get inside the penalty box. The lack of vision and efficiency are by far Nice’s biggest problems.
Nice rely most of all on long balls thrown inside the penalty box after actions carried down the flanks by hesitant fullbacks (Amavi and Palun) and out-of-form wingers.
Nice’s last Ligue1 victory came more than a month ago and judging by their playing style another month may pass till next victory…
Both sides can be a bit tired since the squads have no depth and they are coming after a disappointing midweek round.
It’s difficult to anticipate how this game will evolve given the bad moments and lack of form (for both sides). What’s for sure is that those scoring the first goal will make everything in their power to kill the game.
UPDATE: Good news for Nice as they welcome back central defender Bodmer
