It was a balanced game between Monaco and Caen last round and the final result was fully justified (finished 1-1).
Caen’s major strength was the solid organization. Every time someone got outplayed another player appeared from thin air and took his place.
Opponents couldn’t create that many chances and had to rely on long balls from the flanks. That is actually how Monaco managed to score. Keeper Vercoutre seemed a bit distracted, as in a normal day he shouldn’t have had any problems in saving that shot.
Attacking players Bessat and Delort were not that inspired, but luckily for Caen forward Rodelin was in great form and even managed to score. Most of Caen’s attempts on target either came directly from Rodelin or involved him one way or another.
Hosts will welcome back defender Yahia who was suspended last round.
Great joy for Lille as they finally managed to win another game (1-0 over St Etienne). It was only the 3rd victory this season, but the great news is that they managed to win without two key players. Playmaker Boufal, defender Civelli and forward Guirassy were all suspended.
Boufal and Civelli are exponential players and their participation can change the way Lille perform. They will be back this round, and the moment will be perfect since Lille already picked up some much needed confidence.
Wingers Bautheac and Benzia were extremely active and hopefully they will be more involved in the game from now on. Playmaker Martin also made a decent game, delivered a couple of key passes and an assist, but it’s not yet clear if new coach Antonetti will use both Martin and Boufal in the same time.
Caen’s players are surely taking screenshots of the standings as nobody expected they would be sitting in second place after 16 rounds. They may be very organized and high on confidence, but Lille are also in a good moment and the comebacks of Boufal and Civelli will furthermore increase their morale. Taking all factors in consideration odds may be a bit too unbalanced.
