Caen – Lens Preview

Caen were heavily dominated last round away at PSG but in-spite of that they somehow managed to get away with a draw and continued the series of positive results (finished 1-1).

Forward Privat was out injured but young Argentinian Sala proved he is worthy of confidence and even scored his first goal for Caen.

Caen is one of the most in-form clubs in Ligue1 having won 13 points from the last 5 games (among others they played against PSG and St Etienne). Caen are hard to decipher and maybe this is why opponents have difficulties in stopping them. They are easily moving the play from one side to the other and are comfortable both on counters and when it comes to slowly building up play. Central midfielder Feret is by far their most important player and this is one of the best moments in his career.

Winger Koita had just returned from injury last round but suffered another knock and may miss this round. Nangis should replace him as he will return from suspension.

Especially from a defensive point of view Lens had a really disappointing performance last round against Evian (lost 2-0). Defenders were often caught on the wrong foot and didn’t had the power (or even will) to keep up with opponents. The positioning and tackling skills were at an amateurish level.

The offensive phase was also a let down with only 1 or 2 real goal scoring opportunities.

Lens will have even more problems this round as fullback Baal will miss through suspension and possible replacement Boulenger is out injured. Even if Lens changed strategy lately and tries to cover wider areas in the field, the left side plays a huge role in their game plan. Without Baal and Boulenger Lens will have to adopt a plan B.

When it comes to form and confidence these teams are at opposite ends. And when team news is also in Caen’s favor home win is a must take. Caen -0.5 at 2.11
