Last round Caen were happy to concentrate mostly on the defensive aspect and only once in a while tried to fight back on counters (1-1 away at Bastia).
They were solid and confident in the defensive phase and opponents couldn’t find many ways to open them up. In the attacking phase they are active mostly down the flanks were wingers usually have superior speed and ball control.
This a great moment for Caen who were seriously threatened by relegation about 4 rounds ago. Now they are safe, relaxed, high on confidence and in great form.
It’s official now (if anyone had doubts before last round…) Evian will play in Ligue2 next season. Although players ran their lungs out the overall performance last round against St Etienne was really poor (St Etienne won 2-1). Football is not only about making desperate efforts without any kind of organization and tactic. Maybe relying only on physical efforts will be of help while playing in Ligue2 next season…
All defenders got booked (fullback Abdallah even got a red card) as fouling opponents was the only way to prevent them from entering the penalty box.
Most probably coach Dupraz will change the lineup a bit and give a chance to some fringe players that could be regulars next season. The Evian we know will disappear next season and coach Dupraz may as well start making some chances now.
Guests will welcome back defender Nounkeu after suspension but will miss defenders Abdallah and Mensah (both suspended) and defensive midfielder Kone (injured). Forward Duhamel will also miss as he was transferred from Caen and is not allowed to play against his former team.
Morale, form, team news, motivation, everything simply screams home win. Caen -0.75 at 2.03
UPDATE: Caen will miss defenders Musavu-King and Yahia. Evian welcome back midfielder Wass after he was injured last week.
