Caen Bastia Preview

caen bastia preview

CAEN

Caen focused entirely on defending last round away at Lyon and could barely create a decent scoring opportunity (lost 2-0).

They conceded both goals from penalties, but that doesn’t mean they were rock solid in defense, on the contrary, they looked extremely vulnerable down the flanks. Fullback Imorou got out injured (most probably will miss this round), while Dabo was easily outplayed and also seemed injured (no official news yet).

Most probably this round they will switch back to a more offensive style, like in the first round against Lorient, when they won 3-2 after opponents received two red cards.

It seems that important striker Delort resumed training and will remain at the club after all. Until now Delort made it clear he wants to leave and didn’t show up at training, so the situation can be a bit tense.

BASTIA

Excellent performance from Bastia last week away at Lorient (won 3-0). Lorient finished the game in 9, but Bastia were already in the lead before opponents got the first red card.

Just like last season, Bastia is one of the most organized and disciplined sides in Ligue1. They continuously defend on two lines with lucidity and can be deadly on counters. Last season they had difficulties in the attacking phase, as they were slow and very predictable, but now, thanks to the newly arrived players Bifouma, Saint Maximin and Crivelli, Bastia can build actions in speed and can easily take opponents by surprise.

Last round forward Crivelli and winger Saint Maximin scored their first goals for Bastia, so confidence should be running high in the attacking department.

BETTING

When Caen focus on defending it can be difficult for opponents to create tunnels, but that shouldn’t be the case on home ground against sides considered accessible. Bastia are masters when it comes to defending and Caen don’t have any special weapons. Forwards Crivelli and Saint Maximin will surely give huge headaches to Caen’s slow fullbacks. BASTIA + 0.25 at 2.08

UPDATE: Hosts will once again miss forward Delort, and will also have to do without fullback Imorou.
