Caen Bastia Preview

caen bastia preview

Last round away at Guingamp, Caen scored first, but struggled to keep that advantage for the rest of the game and focused only on defending. Of course conceding the equalizer was unavoidable, and in the end Caen had to return home with only one point (finished 1-1).

Both forwards Rodelin and Delort are out of form, and it was surprising to see Rodelin finding the net last week.

Even when Caen concentrate efforts in defense, they always crack under pressure and keeping a clean sheet seems to be almost an impossible task.

Caen will have to do without important defensive midfielder Seube (suspended), and without defender Da Silva and Alhadhur.

Bastia were unrecognizable last round away at Gazelec Ajaccio (lost 3-2). Bastia are known for their defensive lucidity and high levels of organization, but last week they made a chaotic game, with many personal errors, missed interventions and wrong clearances.

The huge spaces in defense were simply inexplicable, especially since Bastia started with 5 defenders.

In the attacking phase they seemed a bit more active than usual, especially in the first half when both Kamano and Ngando were in the lineup (both are very young and talented players). Unfortunately the defensive softness forced coach Ciccolini to make some changes and introduce more experienced players.

Bastia will miss central midfielder Mostefa who is suspended.

Both sides are in poor form at the moment, and trying to anticipate how this game will develop is like playing the lottery. Only one thing is for sure, odds are too unbalanced.

UPDATE: Bastia will miss a couple of key players: forwards Brandao and Ayite, fullback Palmieri, and defender Peybernes

Caen: Rémy Vercoutre (g), Paul Reulet (g) – Dennis Appiah, Alaeddine Yahia, Syam Ben Youssef, Jordan Adéoti, Alexandre Raineau – Ismaël Diomandé, Jordan Leborgne, Jonathan Delaplace, Vincent Bessat, Julien Féret (cap), Jordan Nkololo – Andy Delort, Ronny Rodelin, Saidi Ntibazonkiza, Jeff Louis, Hervé Bazile

Bastia: Leca, Hansen – Cioni, Jebbour, Marange, Squillaci, Djiku, Modesto – Cahuzac, Fofana, Coulibaly, Ngando, Danic – Kamano, Romain, Maboulou
