Bordeaux – St Etienne Preview

bordeaux st etienne preview

Bordeaux lost a couple of important players this summer, but they also did a good job at replacing them. Forward Diabate, midfielder Chantome, and defenders Sane and Debuchy are the most important players that left the squad.

Highly skilled forward Menez joined from Milan, experienced midfielder Toulalan came from Monaco, and young fullback Sabaly from PSG. Menez will definitely be a great addition, especially since ex striker Diabate was injured most the time and seemed to have lost his touch.

If they won’t bring any reinforcements, Bordeaux may be a bit vulnerable in defense, with players like Guilbert and Poundje in the lineup. Once Menez will accommodate, Bordeaux will be good candidates for betting on goals, but at the moment he is out injured, same as midfielder Sertic and forward Rolan (both of them are doubtful at the moment).

Unfortunately for St Etienne they haven’t addressed their biggest issue. Last season they finished 6th, but when it came to goals scored they were in the lower half of the table. Last season they transferred-in 2 forwards, Beric and Soderlund, but neither of them impressed so far. Beric was injured for most of the season, while Soderlund failed to make an impact.

The most important name that arrived this summer is midfielder Dabo from Montpellier. Dabo is a powerful player, active both in the defensive and offensive phase, and will surely be a starter in most games.

St Etienne lost a couple of players (Brison, Baysse, Eysseric, Cohade, Assou – Ekoto, Tabanou, Clerc, Bahebeck) and overall they seem weaker in comparison to last season.

A bet on Bordeaux could have been valuable if Menez wouldn’t be injured, especially with St Etienne involved in Europa League next week (trip in Israel). In current conditions it’s better to wait and see how teams perform before placing any bets.

UPDATE: Great news for Bordeaux as it seems that forward Menez recovered from injury and made the squad. Hosts will only miss winger Maurice Belay and midfielder Toulalan. Guests will miss newly arrived midfielder Dabo. With many Bordeaux players having recovered from injury, a bet on Bordeaux -0.25 at 2.12 look really tasty.

Bordeaux: Carrasso, Prior ; Contento, Guilbert, Pallois, Poundjé, Sabaly, Sertic ; Malcom, Ounas, Plasil, Touré, Traoré, Vada ; Kamano, Kiese-Thelin, Laborde, Ménez, Rolan.

St Etienne: Saint-Etienne : Ruffier, Moulin – Théophile-Catherine, Polomat, M’Bengue, F.Pogba, Perrin, Malcuit, Karamoko – Pajot, Clément, Corgnet, Selnaes – Tannane, Hamouma, Monnet-Paquet, Söderlund, Beric
