Bordeaux – Montpellier Preview

bordeaux montpellier preview

BORDEAUX

Bordeaux started in force last round away at Lorient but unfortunately couldn’t keep up the same rythm for long and ended up with no points (lost 3-2).

The problem with Bordeaux is that they don’t adapt to opponents’ playing style and capabilities. Bordeaux have the same approach no matter if playing home or away. Bordeaux may be above Ligue1 average but you can’t simply go and try to dominate middle table teams on their home ground. For example in the last 3 away games Bordeaux conceded a total of 11 goals. That’s bit too much for a team with European ambitions.

On home ground there is a different story as Bordeaux are in charge of most games and don’t give opponents the opportunity to make their game.

Looks like Bordeaux will once again miss midfielder Chantome, and this time Biyogo Poko will join him on the sidelines (suspended). On the other hand forward Crivelli will return from suspension.

MONTPELLIER

Montpellier were under complete domination last round away at Lille (lost 2-0). Not only last round but actually in most games so far Montpellier are happy to let opponents take charge since they don’t seem to have enough resources to control games.

Coach Courbis doesn’t really have any solutions and tries all kinds of desperate measures, for example last round he started with young Skhiri as attacking midfielder, instead experienced Lasne. Skhiri barely touched the ball but at least his market value will grow after a few Ligue1 games in his CV…

Montpellier will miss no less than 8 players but only 3 of them played last round: Saihi, Sanson, Jourdren, Yatabaré, Bérigaud and Camara are injured, while Bensebaini and Dabo are suspended. Only Bensabaini, Dabo and Camara played last round.
