Justice was finally done last round when Bordeaux lost 2-0 away at Lille. Recently Bordeaux were getting positive results but the actual performances in the field were a let down.
Upfront they relied mostly on set pieces and long balls for trying to open up opponents and in defense players were slow and seemed to lack concentration.
Maybe motivation is at low levels considering Europa League is not exactly a simple objective to achieve taking in account the other contenders. Coach Sagnol is out of resources and last round he even tried to change the system after only half an hour when he made an offensive change (took out a defensive midfielder and added another forward).
When players enter the field only because is their obligation to do so and they lack the joy to play football we shouldn’t expect much from them…
Metz are flying high after their 2nd win in 2015 and even if they are still among primary candidates for relegation confidence is at an all time high. The victory over Lens last week was fully deserved as it came after a one sided encounter (Metz won 3-1). Metz created numerous scoring opportunities after moving the ball in all parts of the field and dazzling opponents. We could even see ingenious dribbling moves and fast paced passing triangles. This was a pleasant surprise as nobody believed Metz’s players are capable of such things.
Forward Maiga scored 4 goals in the last 2 rounds and must feel like Ibrahimovic, veteran winger Malouda also scored and started to remember his Chelsea days, and even defensive midfielder Kashi had a few attempts on goal and in defense nothing got past him.
Undoubtedly this is Metz’s moment and with Bordeaux lacking inspiration guests have a good chance of getting another positive result. Metz +0.75 at 2.14
UPDATE: Guests will have to do without injured defender Marchal.
