Bordeaux were a real letdown last round away at Sochaux (lost 2-0). They had a pale face and besides some shy attempts on the wings they could not pose much danger.
But something else was really worrying, namely the huge spaces between defenders. Central defenders Henrique and Sane appeared to have other things on their minds, and at times were completely disconnected from everything happening around them. If relegation candidates Sochaux could speculate, every Ligue1 team can…
It will be more difficult for Bordeaux as they could be without both wingers. Faubert is definitely out, while Maurice Belay is doubtful. Rolan and Jussie, who just returned from injury could be starters, but they both lack form so the prospects aren’t that good for Bordeaux.
Recently Lyon have problems creating truly dangerous chances and applying the finishing touch. They only managed to score 1 goal in the last 4 games (Europa League included). This should be a cause for concern, especially for a club aiming for European places.
Defensively they look great, furthermore they will welcome back central defender Bisevac who was suspended last round. But offensively the chances for improvement are pretty slim, especially with play-maker Grenier out injured.
Coach Garde still hopes he can count on Gourcuff for this game, but according to latest reports his situation hasn’t really improved, he is still highly doubtful.
At a first sight this sounds like an interesting encounter, but with both sides lacking resources to create threatening chances, spectators and fans inside the stadium may need some pillows… For sure the game will be much more balanced than the odds suggest.
UPDATE: Besides wingers Maurice – Belay and Faubert, Bordeaux will also miss defensive midfielder N’Guemo and striker Diabate. Gourcuff is once again out for Lyon.
