Bordeaux – Lille Preview

Bordeaux once again made a good game last round away at Guingamp (won 1-0). They played in 10 for almost an entire half making the victory even more praiseworthy.

In the first half Bordeaux surprised with a fast paced game based on short and quick passes, proving the 4-0 win against Ajaccio two rounds ago was not an isolated incident.

Winger Obraniak was left on the bench due to his poor form and Faubert took his place. It was a great call by coach Gillot as Faubert had an impressive performance and even managed to score.

In the first half there was only Bordeaux on the field but everything changed in the 2nd half when Bordeaux got an early red and defended for the rest of the game.

Think of it this way: in the 1st half they demonstrated the offensive abilities while in the 2nd we got to know their defensive strength.

Fullback Orban will miss through suspension but replacement Poundje is at the same level. Striker Diabate could miss once again as he is highly doubtful.

So besides Orban, Bordeaux should use the same team as last round.

This team of Lille must have been born under a lucky star or something. Against Marseille they were cornered especially in the 2nd half but thanks to the miraculous interventions of keeper Enyeama they kept a clean sheet. Lille even won the game 1-0 after a surprise counter in extra time.

Confidence is running high at Lille and probably by now players think they are invincible. But the good run doesn’t add any speed in their game, Kalou is still one of the slowest players I’ve seen and Rodelin is the only one creating chances. There’s a big probability that Rodelin won’t be a regular anymore seeing that Martin is finally back from injury. He already played half an hour last round. In the last 2 months Rodelin was Lille’s best player and benching him would be a major mistake, but it will happen.

Lille showed signs of defensive weakness last round when they had problems anticipating precise through balls, exactly the kind Bordeaux started using in the last 2 games.

If the amount of luck football teams have is limited, Lille surely must have exhausted theirs… Price on Bordeaux could have been bigger but 1.91 on hosts DNB will have to do.
