Bordeaux were lucky to get all points last week away at Montpellier, considering that opponents were the ones who controlled most of the game (Bordeaux won 1-0). They opened the score early after some pinball football and focused mostly on defending the lead.
They had a couple of defensive absences, so Chantome started in central defense (normally a central midfielder). Things should go back to normal this round seeing that defender Guilbert is back after suspension.
At the moment the attacking phase seems to be Bordeaux’s biggest problem. Forward Saivet will transfer out to Newcastle, attacking midfielder Khazri also wants to leave, forward Diabate is in advanced talks with other European clubs (he is doubtful for this game anyway) and there is a bit of apathy in the attacking department.
Midfielders advance a lot trying to add vitality to the offensive phase and defenders don’t receive constant support. Bordeaux kept two clean sheets so far in 2016 (Ligue1 and Cup) but they are far from having a solid defense.
Lille suffered a bit last week against Nice (finished 1-1) but they will look upgraded this round as key layer Boufal returned from injury.
With Boufal back in the squad Lille will definitely be more dangerous in the attacking phase.
Lille transferred-in winger Rony Lopes from Monaco and he already featured in the midweek Cup game against Guingamp. It was a difficult encounter and only after penalties Lille managed to qualify to the semi finals.
Lille struggled in the first part of the season and it took them a while to find the perfect playing system. Their previous coach was a bit inexperienced and players couldn’t achieve full potential. Now coach Antonetti is much more courageous and offensive minded, and Lille should start scoring more goals. This shouldn’t affect the defensive phase and opponents will continue to face a solid wall when up against Lille.
Bordeaux seem to be in great form but appearances can be deceiving. Their attacking problems will force them to open and Lille may have plenty of spaces available for exploiting. Lille DNB 2.38
