I keep on hearing Bordeaux’s fans saying: “Europa League doesn’t matter, we should save energy for Ligue1”.
Well why save energy for Ligue1? It’s not like Bordeaux really have a chance of winning the title or qualifying for Champions League. Or maybe they wish to qualify for Europa League again, so they take Europa League lightly and concentrate on Ligue1 only to qualify for Europa League again… Well that’s a good strategy…
Bordeaux’s weakness remains the offensive compartment where there’s too much reliance on crosses and there are too many missed opportunities.
A couple of rounds ago the system was changed, they went from using one 1 striker (was the preferred formula) to 2 strikers (used rarely). Still the problem is not solved but it may be a step in the right direction. Players may need more time to adjust and perform at full potential, and a game against an unmotivated club, with a leaky defense and deprived of several important players, could prove to be the perfect opportunity.
Bordeaux will miss suspended defensive midfielder N’Guemo. He can be substituted by either Planus or Traore. Both of them are inferior to N’guemo in this moment, but overall defensively I wouldn’t be concerned. With Sane and Henrique in central defense the French side is capable of keeping a clean sheet.
Yes, Frankfurt put 3 past Schalke last round (finished 3-3) but they only had 3 shots on target. Pragmatism at its bets.
Frankfurt will miss offensive minded midfielders Aigner and Maier (important players). If that’s not all, both central defenders Russ (versatile player) and Anderson will miss. They are already conceding from all possible positions, it happened in Bundesliga against Schalke and also in Europa League at Maccabi, why not against Bordeaux also? Upfront there is quality for Bordeaux, they only need to adapt and feel comfortable with 2 strikers.
Chances for Bordeaux to qualify are small that is why there’s absolutely no pressure, no sword over their heads.
I trust pragmatism will be on French side in this game. Hosts will dominate and successfully convert their key chances. The odds for Bordeaux DNB at 1.88 can be taken with low to medium confidence.
