Bordeaux – Evian Preview

The offensive appetite of Bordeaux’s fullbacks and a new central defense (Ilori – Pallois) are the reasons why Bordeaux got defeated last round away at Guingamp (2-1).

Fullbacks Mariano and Contento were very active in the offensive phase but heavily neglected their defensive tasks. In these conditions newly arrived Ilori was simply overwhelmed and couldn’t deal with the pressure.

Sane who is usually a central defender was moved in midfield and struggled a bit to make up his mind whether to advance or sit at the back whenever Bordeaux had the ball. This slowed down their game and fullbacks needed to compensate for the lack of determination in the center.

Things will get back to normal now seeing that central midfielder Poko should return to the lineup. With Poko in the lineup Sane will go back in central defense, replacing Ilori and giving him some much needed time to adapt.

As expected the circus of errors continued in Evian’s defense. In a desperate move they have transferred-in central defender Givet from Arles and put him directly in the lineup. But besides letting his beard grow 50cm, Givet doesn’t have any other skills…

Evian’s entire offensive phase consists of only a few long range attempts and set pieces. Evian gathered players from all over the world with different playing styles, mentalities and conceptions about the game, so besides a shaky defense and toothless offense that may be another reason for the poor performances. Evian have players from Denmark, Ghana, Comoro Islands, Tunisia, Serbia, Burkina Faso, Belgium, Congo, Costa Rica and Algeria in the lineup each round. The construction phase is rusty and most of the passes miss the target completely.

Evian will welcome back fullback Sabaly after suspension but central defender Angoula is still out injured.

Bordeaux shouldn’t have any problems in imposing the rythm and opening up confused Evian at least once. Bordeaux -1 at 1.95
