Bordeaux are coming after a disappointing performance in Europa League (lost 1-0 vs Frankfurt). It is the same old story when it comes to them, lack of firepower.
The game was exhausting as it was played until the final moments. Bordeaux rested only fullbacks Mariano and Orban (although Orban is not necessarily a regular). Even winger Obraniak played for about 15 minutes.
Bordeaux’s play in midfield has a nice flow, but when it comes to infiltrating in the penalty box players start passing the responsibility instead of passing the ball.
Scoring 2 goals per game against modest opponents should not be a problem for a team aiming for an European place. But the last time Bordeaux scored 2 goals both of them came from long distance shots from outside the box.
Bordeaux will welcome back defensive midfielder N’Guemo after he was suspended in Europa League.
Despite losing 3-1 last round (against Marseille) there were clear signs of improvement for Ajaccio. Especially the performances of midfielders Lasne and Andre are worth mentioning. They often changed sides and were useful both to the defensive and offensive phase.
The goals conceded by Ajaccio were not necessarily the result of poor defensive display but instead were normal consequences of facing skilled opponents like Payet and Gignac. But now things will be different since we can’t even compare Bordeaux’s striker Diabate with Gignac or winger Maurice-Belay with Payet…
This game should be controlled by Bordeaux but once again they will have major difficulties in scoring. Especially against Ajaccio who will defend on 2 lines.
Long distance shots most likely won’t do the trick this time for Bordeaux as Ajaccio’s keeper Ochoa is too experienced to be caught by surprise.
Odds on Bordeaux are way too low to deserve any attention. The value is on under 2.5 goals at 1.82.
