Bastia – Toulouse Preview

As expected Bastia only concentrated on defending last round away at PSG (lost 2-0).

Central defender Romaric should have been the most stable defensive player, but his form is poor and so the entire defense suffers. Not to mention the other central defender Peybernes who is newly transferred and has yet to adapt at Bastia.

This situation guarantees Bastia will concede, especially on home ground (when they are more daring in the attempt to get points) and against opponents with decent offensive potential.

Following Brandao’s conflict with Thiago Motta he was left outside the squad by coach Makelele, so regardless if he will be suspended or not Brandao won’t play against Toulouse. He won’t be missed as he could barely touch the ball in the first 2 rounds and most probably this was the reason for his frustration that led to violence.

Toulouse’s 3-5-2 system is delivering results, at least now when fullbacks/wingers are very active as they play an important role. Akpa-Akpro even managed to score last round against Lyon (Toulouse on 2-1).

Toulouse use 2 defensive minded central midfielders in the attempt to compensate the low number of defenders. But still the spaces on the flanks are simply huge and entire convoys could pass through. This is why last round 3 central defenders got booked (one substitute) as there was no way of stopping opponents besides fouling them.

Also in central defense there’s a newly arrived player, Romanian Grigore, who looks decent but doesn’t communicate enough with teammates.

But at least things look very good upfront, with forward Ben Yedder scoring again last round and Braithwaite moving around a lot, creating spaces and taking part in many actions.

This game should be entertaining with Bastia pushing to keep the points at home and Toulouse making their usual offensive minded game. Over 2.5 goals at 2.13

UPDATE: Keeper Leca and defenders Squillaci and Diakite return from injury for hosts. Toulouse are without winger Matheus and defender Veskovac but welcome back winger Ninkov and defender Yago. Same bet
