Bastia – Nice Preview

Last round against PSG, Bastia collapsed even before entering the field… Not even their new commando style t-shirt could be of any help…

I admit I was overexcited about this new team of Bastia. I believed winger Krasic could do wonders, when in fact his age makes him only a shadow of his former self. I believed attacking midfielder Boudebouz was exactly the play-maker Bastia needed and overlooked his pretentious playing style, with unnecessary dribbling moves that only delayed actions. I forgot that keeper Landreau was the one always saving the day and if he’s in a bad form the shaky defense can’t do nothing about it.

I gave Bastia too much credit, too early in the season. They are only on the verge of becoming a medium to powerful Ligue1 club, but for that they need more time and depth.

So far, at home, their results have been impressive but also misleading. Only against Lorient (4-1) they fully deserved to win, as otherwise they were under constant pressure.

They will still be without defenders Diakite (suspended) and Squillaci (injured).

Nice are flying high after defeating Marseille last round. They have keeper Ospina to thank for taking all the points, as his interventions were just marvelous.

Central midfielder Traore is getting more involved in the game as round goes by. He started to show qualities that I never knew he had: vision, precise passing, powerful shot and accurate tackling.
He often engages in fast and dazzling combinations with Bruls and create actions that place forward Cvitanich in positions of 1 vs 1 with the keeper (it happened against Marseille).

Winger Eysseric made his comeback last round after being injured. He played for about half an hour, couldn’t make a difference, but he is slowly picking up form and rhythm.

Nice don’t have any new injuries so most probably they will be using the same team as against Marseille.

Nice don’t need many players for creating and converting, 3 players are enough for them. This is why they are constantly defending with 7 players. Bastia still need to develop deeper playing relations to be able to break up a solid, organized and high flying Nice.

Odds are wrongly set by the bookies. Most probably they are based solely on Bastia’s home record and Nice’s away stats. +0.25 for Nice at 1.78 is a must bet.

Regarding my correct score accumulator, I took Nice to win 1-0.
