Bastia accepted and even welcomed Toulouse’s domination last game. Coach Hantz changed the system a bit and allowed central midfielder Romaric to be more offensive.
Romaric has good ball control and vision and so the new formula paid off for Bastia. Usual play-maker Boudebouz was out injured but most probably he will return for this game. It remains to be seen if Romaric will once again be allowed to move freely with Boudebouz back in the squad.
Cisse finally scored his first goal Bastia even if he failed to impress and make a real difference. Early in the 2nd half Cisse suffered a knock and got out injured, same as midfielder Yatabare. Both of them are small doubts ahead of this game. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if they will sit out against Monaco, as neither of them are important players.
The good news is that defenders are finally more confident and lucid in interventions, after making some huge errors in past rounds.
Keeper Landreau is still injured for Bastia, but Leca is a proper replacement.
Monaco used a mixed squad in the Cup game away at Nice. They played against 10 for one half (Nice got a red card) but failed to impose a rythm and create constant pressure. Their display was kind of a letdown, just like it was in last 2 Ligue1 rounds.
Newly transferred-in grandpa Berbatov scored on his debut for Monaco and the French media found a new darling after Ibrahimovic. I was never impressed by Berbatov, especially in the last years and I don’t think he will make much of a difference at Monaco.
Coach Ranieri will surely pick the team based on names and market value and not according to form. Most likely in-form forward Germain will be only on the bench, in order to make room for talentless Riviere or octogenarian Berbatov.
It’s not rocket science analyzing Monaco. They rely a lot on Rodriguez for building actions, and whenever he is out-of-form Monaco fail to pose any danger.
In central midfield Bastia have solid players like Cahuzac and Romaric, players who are able to neutralize Rodriguez.
With defenders once again on top of their game, Bastia on home ground can deal with Monaco. Odds on away win don’t have any value as hosts can keep at home at least 1 point. Bastia +0.75 at the price 1.92.
