Last week we could see how coach’s decisions could influence the outcome of a game.
Bastia started the game (2-2 vs St Etienne) with Raspentino on the wing in the detriment of other offensive players like Ilan, Keseru or Krasic, all of them more skilled and in form.
I personally do not know what coach Hantz was thinking allowing Raspentino to start. Ever since I have heard his name this player was never in form and everyone is waiting for him to achieve full potential. The only problem is this moment never arrived and never will, because Raspentino is a very limited player and the entire fuss around him was created on false premises.
Bastia found themselves under heavy fire since the beginning of the game. Their actions on the wings led to nothing but lost possession (Raspentino had a big responsibility in that)
Once he was substituted Bastia looked revived, like a Phoenix bird reborn out of ashes.
They started to create dangerous actions, apply pressure and believe in themselves. As a consequence they managed to miraculously equalize in the dying moments of the game (2-2 from being 2-0 down). An important point that will give them wings and will be the foundation of future impressive results.
Just like last round Bastia could miss 3 defensive players: defensive midfielders Cahuzac and Sable and fullback Harek (he may return). These 3 also missed against St Etienne and in the end Bastia managed without them. Diakite will also miss through suspension.
Opponents Lorient didn’t stand a chance last week against Marseille. Marseille was always in control even when it appeared they were cornered.
Lorient were very unlucky so far this season as they’ve changed the starting lineup almost in every round. Players got injured, others transferred out and so on.
The department that suffered the most was the central midfield. Players paraded in the central midfield for Lorient like it was the army of North Korea. Finally now they will be able to find some continuity as it seems that both Lautoa and Coutadeur will be able to start again just like last round.
Needless to say that they lack form and rhythm and some time is needed for the results to come.
Upfront they only rely on Aboubakar, mediocre player newly arrived this season from Valenciennes. There’s a rumor striker Aliadiere may return from injury, but even so, he won’t be a starter.
Besides that, there should be no other change in the squad for Lorient as no player will return from injury. Barthelme, Diallo, Kone, Quercia, Sunu, Traore and Aliadiere (doubt) are still out. Some of them important players that played a couple of games this season.
Most probably Krasic will start as regular for Bastia in an attempt to exploit the average value and young age of Lorient’s left back Guerreiro. In front of Guerreiro there will be another youngster, Pele promoted from the 2nd team. Guests’ left flank will suffer in front of Krasic’s experience and talent.
Hopefully Raspentino will guard the bench this game and Khazri along with Boudebouz will be the ones entering the field, as they have the necessary abilities to open up Lorient’s defense.
All the factors point towards a home win, so the price on Bastia DNB at 1.80 looks really appealing.
