Bastia – Caen Preview

Wonderful performance from Bastia last round away at Rennes (won 1-0). Although they played in 10 for an entire half Bastia were solid in defense and were always on alert for possibilities to speculate on counters. Whenever defenders got outplayed keeper Areola was there to save the day (even saved a penalty).

These were 3 important points for Bastia who can relax now seeing this season is over for them.

Coach Prinant may change the lineup a bit and give a chance some fringe players (forward Ongenda for example).

Bastia will miss fullback Diakite and winger Kamano (both of them suspended). There are no news regarding the condition of playmaker Boudebouz so most probably he will sit out again.

It’s been a while since Caen were under so huge pressure but still managed to keep a clean sheet (won 3-0 against Lyon). At times there was a total siege at Caen’s goal but keeper Vercourtre was in excellent form and prevented Lyon from scoring. Vercourtre’s performance is even more praiseworthy as he played with an injury.

Forward Benezet is also in great form after scoring 3 goals in the last 3 rounds. This is the best moment of the season for Benezet and he can take advantage of opponents (and even teammates) being in a vacation mode and increase his market value a bit.

With 2 rounds to go Caen are 5 points above the relegation zone but they should consider themselves saved as main relegation candidates Evian have a difficult game away at St Etienne this round.

Both sides will relax and take the foot off the gas. This can be a pretty boring encounter with only a few players making extra efforts (Benezet from Caen and Bastia’s substitute players)

UPDATE: Hosts’ striker Cisse return after injury. Guests will miss defender Musavu King.
