Bastia – Caen Preview

bastia caen preview

The way they are performing Bastia need a miracle to be able to stop the bad run. Last round they started very determined away at Montpellier but their efforts diminished as time passed and pretty soon opponents where in charge of the game (Bastia lost 2-0).

It was the third consecutive Ligue1 defeat for Bastia and sadly the future doesn’t look too bright.

In the midweek Cup game coach Printant couldn’t afford to make many changes and only offensive players Ayite and Ngando were replaced by Raspentino and Coulibaly. Besides resting regular players the changes didn’t had any effect as Bastia were toothless in the attacking phase.

Caen was the better side last week against Nantes but unfortunately they had to embrace a different strategy and failed to adapt. Caen usually achieve full potential when they apply counter attacking tactics but last round against Nantes they tried to take charge of the game (Nantes won 2-0).

Things should go back to normal this round, as in away games Caen concentrate on stopping opponents’ actions from incipient stages and striking on counters. The counter attacking tactic works better for Caen mainly because of the skills of offensive players. They are solid players with good speed, and prefer to attack in force and take by surprise instead of steadily build up play.

Caen used a mixed squad in the midweek Cup game (keeper Vercoutre, winger Bessat, defender Yahia and midfielder Delaplace were rested), they still created more chances than opponents but the final result was very frustrating (Nice – Caen 2-1 after a goal scored in extra time).

Bastia start all games very determined and don’t hesitate to rush upfront. Maybe now more than ever they will adopt an offensive strategy since they need to end the negative series. This will be perfect for Caen who will be able to make the most of their skills. Caen DNB 1.90
