Bastia – Ajaccio Preview

Bastia managed to open the score last round against Evian but couldn’t hold the lead for more than 5 minutes (lost 2-1).

Defensively Bastia were very weak and unable to resist to a minimum level of creativity coming from the opponents.

In the offensive phase they were also a bit pale. Striker Cisse started being a regular again but his performances are far from impressive. Nevertheless he is a talented player that needs only one action per game to make the difference. The same happened last week when he delivered an assist and entered anonymity for the rest of the game.

Like expected from a team sitting in the middle of the table with 5 rounds to go, Bastia aren’t that motivated nowadays. The only thing is that the game with Ajaccio is a derby and always brings out the best from both sides.

For two rounds Ajaccio used 2 strikers but coach Bracconi decided to switch back to the old system. This change didn’t really affected Ajaccio’s offensive phase as they once again created many dangerous opportunities and succeeded in pushing the opponent in own half.

Even fullbacks often found themselves in dangerous situations near opponents’ penalty area. Midfielders Andre and Lasne once again build many threatening chances and also tried to be present at the finishing end. Sadly for Ajaccio this time they couldn’t find the net despite having numerous chances.

There are no news regarding the situation of midfielder Cavalli so most probably he will sit out again.

Neither side fights for anything anymore in Ligue1. But players will be more fired up than ever as fans treat this game as the most important of the season (the Corsican derby). Ajaccio will make their usual open game, maybe now pushing harder than usual, while Bastia will once again leave many open spaces at the back and rely on Cisse for helping them score at least once. Over 2.5 goals at 1.96

UPDATE: Ajaccio will have to do without Pedretti and Tonucci who got injured right after leaving the physio room.
